Western Trading Company supplies Medtronic's complete wound-closure portfolio — from fast-absorbing monofilaments to permanent braided sutures — across every surgical specialty we serve. The range is organised in two families:
Our absorbable sutures provide strength retention and absorption profiles to meet your surgical specialty and tissue healing requirements.
Caprosyn™ synthetic absorbable suture’s quick absorption (56 days), durable polymer material and monofilament construction provide smooth passage through tissue, better approximation or ligation, and minimized potentiation of infection. Patients can experience less discomfort during healing, less wound complications and a faster recovery.
Polysorb™ sutures are composed of Lactomer™ glycolide/lactide copolymer, which is a synthetic polyester composed of glycolide and lactide (derived from glycolic and lactic acids). They are prepared by coating the suture with a mixture of a caprolactone/glycolide copolymer and calcium stearoyl lactylate. The sutures are colored violet to increase visibility and are also available undyed.
Biosyn™ synthetic absorbable sutures are prepared from Gylcomer™ 631, a synthetic polyester composed of glycolide (60%), dioxanone (14%), and trimethylene carbonate (26%). These sutures are colored violet to increase visibility and are also available undyed.
Maxon™ synthetic absorbable sutures are prepared from polyglyconate, a copolymer of glycolic acid and trimethylene carbonate.
Maxon™ CV synthetic absorbable sutures are prepared from polyglyconate, a copolymer of glycolic acid and trimethylene carbonate.
Our Nonabsorbable sutures can be used in a range of procedures including cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.
Dermalon™ monofilament nylon sutures are inert, non-absorbable, sterile surgical sutures, which are available dyed blue to provide visibility compared to other nylon sutures.
Monosof™ monofilament nylon sutures are inert, non-absorbable, sterile surgical sutures, which are available either dyed black, with Logwood extract, or undyed (clear).
Uncoated Surgipro™ sutures (clear or pigmented) are inert, non-absorbable, sterile sutures composed of an isotactic crystalline stereoisomer of polypropylene (a synthetic linear polyolefin) and polyethylene.
Vascufil™ coated, non-absorbable, monofilament surgical sutures are composed of polybutester fiber, which gives the suture
Sofsilk™ sutures are non-absorbable, sterile, non-mutagenic surgical sutures composed of natural proteinaceous silk fibers called fibroin. The braided sutures are available coated uniformly with either silicone or a special wax mixture to reduce capillarity and to increase surface lubricity, which enhances handling characteristics, ease of passage through tissue, and knot run-down properties.
Uncoated Surgipro™ II sutures (clear or pigmented) are inert, non-absorbable, sterile sutures composed of an isotactic, crystalline stereoisomer of polypropylene and contain polyethylene.
